How To Get Your Kids Moving Indoors This Winter

As the temperature drops and outdoor play becomes less feasible, keeping kids active and engaged indoors is more important than ever. Physical activity not only helps children burn off excess energy but also boosts their mood, improves focus, and supports healthy development. If you’re searching for creative ways to keep your little ones moving this winter, Power Tots has you covered!

Here are ten fun ideas to help your kids stay active indoors, with a special focus on our gymnastics programs and resources.

  1. Gymnastics at Home: Set up a mini gymnastics session using Power Tots’ kids gymnastics videos on YouTube. From forward rolls to balancing challenges, these free videos provide guided activities that are perfect for small spaces.

  2. Indoor Obstacle Course: Use pillows, chairs, and blankets to create an obstacle course. Challenge your kids to crawl, jump, and climb their way through the course—a great way to build strength and coordination.

  3. Dance Party: Turn up the music and let your kids dance their hearts out. It’s an excellent cardio workout that requires no special equipment.

  4. Animal Walks: Encourage your kids to move like their favorite animals. Bear crawls, bunny hops, and crab walks are all fantastic ways to develop strength and agility.

  5. Balloon Games: Keep a balloon off the ground using only hands or feet. This simple activity hones hand-eye coordination and reflexes.

  6. Yoga for Kids: Practice basic yoga poses to improve flexibility and mindfulness. Power Tots classes often incorporate yoga-inspired movements to keep little bodies calm and strong. Check out our Baby & Me Yoga, too!

  7. Freeze Dance: Add a twist to a classic dance party by introducing freeze dance. When the music stops, everyone freezes in place!

  8. Jump Rope or Hula Hoop: If space allows, these classic activities provide a great workout for improving endurance and motor skills.

  9. Stretching Routines: Take time for flexibility exercises that mimic some of the stretches taught in Power Tots classes. Try one of our favorite videos to Get The Wiggles Out With Miss Janet and Miss Christina.

  10. Family Gym Time: Join in the fun! Kids are more likely to stay active when their grown-ups participate too.

At Power Tots, we’re passionate about helping kids develop a love for movement that lasts a lifetime. Our gymnastics classes are designed to build strength, confidence, and coordination, even in the coziest indoor settings. Plus, with our YouTube videos, you can bring the Power Tots experience into your living room anytime! Staying active during the winter months doesn’t have to be a challenge—it can be a fun opportunity to get creative and bond as a family. Check out our videos and explore the joy of movement today!
